BOREALIS - THE LIVING UNIVERSITY OF THE NORTH
APPLICATION TO
WORLD MILLENNIUM
PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS
STAGE I : PROJECT EASEL : THE EXPERIMENTAL URBAN MODULE
DEVELOPMENT
of the PROJECT

This stage is in three parts. The first part is the
collecting of relevant research information which is available in various forms
and in scattered locations. Much of the technological know-how, studies, and
methodology necessary for project Easel has been completed at various locations
in the world. Therefore it is imperative that these findings be gathered and
co-ordinated
so that time is not wasted in needless duplication. Easy access to this stored
data along with a periodic review and updating will be integrated into a suitable information retrieval system.
This process would continue
throughout the development of project Easel, and
become a permanent resource of the city's information and communications
centre.
The second part of the research stage is the synthesis of the
gathered material. New programs and studies, independently developed, can have
entirely different scope when brought together. It is through the synthesis of
studies that new forms can be developed and enlarged.
Stage I - Critical Path Diagram
The third part is the development of new programs and the
planning and architectural rendering of the Experimental Urban Module (EUM). The
technologies and building materials and techniques will be developed in terms of
a general geographical location which fits the conditions of the area under
consideration. It is not our intention to establish the parameters of the entire
city in this stage, but rather to plan a community of 1,500 to 2,000 persons
which, like a seed, germinates and flowers according to its founding code. The
definition of this code shall be established in the research and planning stage
and take the form of the following:
|
1.) Architectural plans &renderings of EUM
2.) Initial land survey
3.) Guidebook
4.) Cost analysis and Budgets for EUM.
|
5.) Films
6.) Data and research bank
7.) Subcontract Bids - EUM
8.) Other criteria.
