Borealis begins with the ''Experimental Urban Module'' with a
population of 3,000 to 5,000 persons. This module, representing a neighborhood
of the future city, will be the grounds for a total set of experiments in urban
design: the environmental relationship; the participatory process; social and
human conviviality; alternative types of education; resources management; and
the human spatial language.
For this experimental module we would start with an
occupation of 20-30 acres and aim at a minimum population of circa 1,500
persons. The first activities installed will be space age hydroponic agriculture
(plus dairy and poultry) waste-recycling units, energy saving systems, and a
centre for studies in environmental urban design. Very soon after would other
activities be added to the whole as the population's needs grow and the
experience multiplies.
